Daikin’s air filtration and purification technology has been acknowledged by the Sensitive Choice program for reducing asthma and allergy triggers. Their residential units feature easy to use controllers with a lock system and temperature limits to reduce energy waste.

Carrier have designed residential systems to heat and cool your home with a minimum of noise and energy use. Carrier offers single split systems and ducted systems. Both offer effective complete house heating and cooling, utilising inverter technology.

Split Systems

Offering energy efficiency, Daikin’s split systems include; the US7 Series; Zena Series; Cora Series; Alira Series; Daikin Lite Series; Nexura Series and Floor Standing Series. They have controller options offering high-tech features, with the aim of providing a comfortable environment in varied Australian climates.

Carrier’s has 3 units in their split system range; the Inverter Hi-Wall Split System – Aura Ultimate, Pearl Inverter Split System Air Conditioner A 2 and K Series Inverter Cool Only System - R410A. These offer intelligent, environmentally friendly features.
Dust particles and common household odours are filtered and a mould reducing, self-cleaning mode removes moisture from Carrier’s indoor units. These units also have sensors built into the remote controller to regulate room temperature based on the conditions around the remote. Daikin's range received a rating of 4.5 out of 5 with Carrier’s rated at 3.5 out of 5.

Ducted Systems

Daikin’s ducted systems come in 4 main types: Premium Inverter Ducted Series; Inverter Ducted Series; Slim-Line Ducted Series and Bulkhead Ducted System Series. These units are designed to be compact and efficient, fitting discretely into tight roof spaces. With a wide span of capacities from 2.4 kW to 24.0 kW, there should be a unit whose capacity should suit your size.

Carrier offers a smaller selection, with two ducted the High Static Ducted - SHDV Series and Slimline Ducted - SHDS Series. These offer comfort on an expandable network with a single-phase source, allowing for easier, cost-effective installation. Fresh air is drawn in by the outdoor unit rather than recycling existing, stale air. These units can be combined to provide a building solution.

Hydronic Heating Systems

Daikin’s Hydronic system, the Altherma Bi-Bloc Hydronic Heating Series is energy efficient. Its purpose is to heat, cool and provide hot water for your home’s kitchen, laundry, showers and baths. This unit’s hydrobox can be positioned inside, taking up less space, as a gas system isn’t required. Overall, Daikin's innovative hydronic range rated at 3.5 out of 5.

Multi-Systems

Daikin’s multi-system units are ideal for apartment buildings where a balcony or courtyard may be the only outdoor space. Multi-systems allow one outdoor unit to control a number of different inside air conditioners, meaning you can heat or cool your whole apartment or house using them. Daikin’s multi-systems were rated 4 out 5 for their spatial and energy efficiency.

Air Purifiers

Daikin’s purifiers reduce contaminant and odour levels via a 6-layer filtration system. One of these units can reach large areas of space of up to 46m². In times of high pollution a turbo mode can be engaged too quickly remove allergy and asthma triggers. With such a long reach Daikin’s air purifying are built to work effectively in both small and large spaces. Our review team rated Daikin's Air Purifier Series range at 4.5 out of 5.

Controllers

Carrier’s residential controllers are user friendly, with visual clues and simple instructions. Carrier’s unit controllers can protect from waste using a temperature lock, to avoid the unit being turned too far up or down. A small range, most of Carrier’s controllers are nonetheless compatible with different units. Large buttons on some controllers make them more accessible for those who have sight impairment. These and a number of other features offering precise control have contributed to Carrier being awarded a score of 4 out of 5 for their residential controllers.

Daikin and Carrier have a wide variety of products in the commercial air conditioner range that are designed to be reliable, quiet and energy efficient. Carrier’s range applies innovative controls and environmentally friendly solutions for diverse spaces including shopping centres, educational facilities and apartment or office buildings. Both Daikin and Carrier offer a commercial range that can be installed in a new build or added to an existing system to expand it. Both companies have built in protections to ensure their units perform under pressure.

Split Systems

Daikin’s split system range is built for a range of commercial applications from kitchens to retail outlets. These come in the same configuration as Daikin’s domestic split system units, with 8 different types available; coming in wall mounted or floor standing options, depending on requirements. Daikin’s commercial split system range was rated at 4 out of 5.

Air Handlers

Carrier’s diverse range of air handlers include the models; 39CQ Compact, 39CQM, 39G, 39HQ and 40LMA, which received a rating of 4 out of 5. They feature clean design and are constructed of strong materials to protect from excessive noise and thermal bridging.

Left or right piping connection and removable hinged doors are available on some units to make installation easier. Built to last, these units can cope with high loads and cold or hot water. Carrier’s air handler range was rated at 4 out of 5.

Chillers and Heat Pumps

Carrier offer a large range of chillers and heat pumps including; 16DE/DEH, 16DN/DNH 16JL/JLR, Aqua Edge 23XRV and Aqua Snap 30AWH.

These systems offer anti-crystallisation protections, have no CFCs and are non-ozone depleting. They also feature two-stage high efficiency design to reduce energy costs. The ICVC control system for these offer advanced features, including remote monitoring and bi-directional communication. They received a rating of 3.5 out of 5.

VRV Systems

Daikin’s Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) range has 6 different units. These are; a Gas Heat Pump Outdoor Unit, VRV Air Handling Unit Series, VRV H Heat Pump, VRV III-Q Outdoor Unit, VRV IV Water Cooling Outdoor Unit and VRV IV. The units are designed to deliver climate management solutions for a commercial environment, working alongside indoor units on large sites, built to handle higher capacities.

VRV Indoor Units

Daikin offer 17 VRV Indoor Units for commercial spaces. These can be connected to 64 units as part of a tailored solution for new builds or refurbishments. VRV units are ideal for spaces that require very specific climates; for example in libraries, art galleries and museums. With capacities of up to 28kW Daikin's VRV Indoor unit selection is rated at 4 out of 5.

Controllers and Interfaces

Both Daikin and Carrier have developed centralised controllers for larger commercial systems. Daikin’s range, rated at 4.5 out of 5, includes the iTouch Manager Centralised Controller, Individual control systems and BACNet / LonWorks Interface.

Carrier’s controllers, rated at 3 out of 5, include the i-Vu Chiller Plant/HVAC Control System, which offers real time information and the flexibility to be either factory-installed or installed on equipment from any other manufacturer.

Controllers are integral to an overall system as they can oversee zone behaviour, program behaviour on a weekly schedule, or account for holiday periods when spaces may be vacant.

Applied Solutions

Daikin offer a flexible range of low cost chillers with different sizes and flexible ways to control an indoor environment. These are split up into Air Cooled Chillers and Water Cooled Chillers, with the water run ones up to 9450kW capacity and air cooled up to 2000kW. Overall, we rated both Daikin's applied solutions at 3.5 out of 5.

Condensing Units

Carrier offer 5 energy efficient condensing units; the 38APD, 38APS, 38AUD, 38AUZ and 38RBS. These can be installed either on a rooftop or on-the-ground operation. Most can be combined with others to provide higher capacity operations or expand on existing ones.

Most units in this range feature protections including anti-short cycling and compressor overload protection. Our review team rated Carrier’s condensing units at 4 out of 5.

Light Commercial Applications

Daikin’s Light Commercial range received a rating of 4 out of 5. These applications are designed for smaller commercial spaces like shops, restaurants and small offices. They feature energy saving functions, with wide- and long-angle airflow to ensure all parts of a room receive comfort. Models include Ceiling Suspended Sky Air, Fully Flat Cassette SkyAir, Round Flow Cassette SkyAir and Wall Mounted SkyAir, all of which are designed to optimise space for commercial operations.

Packaged Systems

Daikin’s packaged systems feature a powder coated drain pan for corrosion resistance. The Rooftop Packaged Units have large capacity spans of 16.2kW to 84.2kW. These can be expanded as necessary. Rooftop Packaged Units are designed to look neat and be easily installed. Overall, Daikin's packaged systems were rated 4 out of 5.

Fan Coils

Carrier’s fan coil range have 6 units including; 42CN, 42CT, 42GWC, 42HS, 42N and 42NL/NH. These have flexible installation options, energy saving functions and energy saving algorithms.

The fan coil range has been engineered for minimal installation time and to improve long-term reliability. They offer low noise and were rated 3.5 out of 5 by our reviewers
