Daikin’s air filtration and purification technology has been acknowledged by the Sensitive Choice program for reducing asthma and allergy triggers. Their residential units feature easy to use controllers with a lock system and temperature limits to reduce energy waste.

Toshiba’s residential units give users precise control to deliver a high level of comfort. This comes with low operating sound levels and improved air quality. Their range of wall mounted split systems, floor standing units and inverter ducted systems deliver high, fast levels of power through Pulse Amplitude Modulation.

Split Systems

Offering energy efficiency, Daikin’s split systems include; the US7 Series; Zena Series; Cora Series; Alira Series; Daikin Lite Series; Nexura Series and Floor Standing Series. They have controller options offering high-tech features, with the aim of providing a comfortable environment in varied Australian climates.

Toshiba’s split system range is easy to maintain and includes remote sensors for localised comfort. Their range includes three types of unit; N3KV Inverter High Wall, BKVS Inverter High Wall and BKV Inverter High Wall. The refrigerant used in Toshiba’s units has a lower environmental footprint than others. The units themselves are durable, designed to cope under harsh environmental conditions.

Ducted Systems

Daikin’s ducted units are designed to be discrete but efficient. Engineered to be slim, they fit discretely into tight roof spaces. The range includes 4 main types: Premium Inverter Ducted Series; Inverter Ducted Series; Slim-Line Ducted Series and Bulkhead Ducted System Series, with a wide span of capacities from 2.4 kW to 24.0 kW.

Toshiba’s Inverter Ducted System is ideal for a wide array of layouts including narrow spaces, unusually shaped rooms and those with obstacles. They feature compressor technology that allows rapid heating and cooling to temporarily increase power, quickly reaching the desired temperature for comfort.

We rated Daikin’s ducted range at 3.5 out of 5, with Toshiba receiving a 3.0 out of 5 rating. Both brands offer solutions with flexible installation, including for spaces that may be unusual.

Hydronic Heating Systems

Daikin offer a hydronic system, the Altherma Bi-Bloc Hydronic Heating Series, which is energy efficient. The system converts hydro energy to heat, cool and provide hot water wherever it may be needed in your home. It takes up less space, with the control box having the option of inside positioning inside. An innovative offering, Daikin's hydronic range was rated at 3.5 out of 5.

Multi-Systems

Daikin and Toshiba’s multi-system units are ideal for spaces where a balcony or courtyard may be the only outdoor space but several rooms require an air conditioner. A multi-system allows one outdoor unit to control multiple inside units, heating or cooling your whole apartment or house.

Toshiba’s multi system offers intelligent, advanced features including a child lock, flexible air inlets, self-cleaning and efficient DC compressors. They can connect to Inverter High Wall, Inverter Ducted, Inverter Cassette and Inverter Console, providing a wide range of solutions.

Daikin’s multi-systems were rated 4 out 5 for their efficient range while Toshiba’s multi-system received 3.5 out of 5.

Air Purifiers

Daikin’s are recognised by the Sensitive Choice program for their commitment to delivering clean air. Their purifiers reduce allergy triggers, contaminant and odour levels via a 6-layer filtration system. During times of high pollution, such as bushfire season, a turbo mode can be engaged to quickly remove allergy and asthma triggers. Impressively, one of these units can reach areas of space of up to 46m².

Controllers

Toshiba offer a flexible range of wired and wireless controller options that can include a self-diagnosis function, large controller buttons and an inbuilt remote sensor. This range includes; RBC-AMS54E-ES, RBC-AMS41E, RBC-AMT32E, and RBC-AS21E2.

Some of these models can be grouped with up to 8 indoor units, with a power saving mode, which is anywhere between 50-100% of full operating mode. With excellent choices an features, this range was rated 4 out of 5 by our review team.

Daikin has an impressive variety of commercial products that provide solutions for commercial spaces from apartment buildings to hospitals. Toshiba’s commercial air conditioner range is not as big, but their units are designed to be quiet and energy efficient. Toshiba have designed their commercial range to deliver a high standard of air quality, appropriate sound levels, energy efficiency, and low environmental impact, utilising advanced technology to do so. Both brands work with their clients to deliver solutions which will fit the space in terms of size and human traffic.

Split Systems

Daikin’s commercial split system range comes in the same configuration as their domestic split system units, with 8 different types available. These models can be wall mounted, ducted or floor standing options, depending on requirements.

The range suits a number of commercial applications from small cafes to retail outlets. Our review team awarded Daikin’s commercial split system range a rating of 4 out of 5.

VRV / VRF Systems

VRV and VRF units are designed to deliver climate management for large commercial environments. These systems working alongside indoor units on large sites and are built to handle higher capacities.

Daikin’s range has 6 different units. These are; a Gas Heat Pump Outdoor Unit, VRV Air Handling Unit Series, VRV H Heat Pump, VRV III-Q Outdoor Unit, VRV IV Water Cooling Outdoor Unit and VRV IV. These have a diverse range of applications and capacities.

Toshiba’s SMMSe (Super Modular Multi System) 2 pipe heat pump can cover up to 157.0 kW, while the Mini VRF 2 pipe heat pump offers up to 13 outdoor models with a total combination of 81 units. Their DC motor is highly efficient, delivering comfort with a decrease in energy consumption.

VRV Indoor Units

VRV units are ideal for spaces that require very specific climates; for example in places where objects have to be preserved, such as libraries, art galleries and museums. Daikin’s 17 VRV Indoor Units can be connected to 64 units either as part of new builds or refurbishments.

Controllers and Interfaces

Controllers are integral to the smooth running of an overall system. They can zone behaviours, increase efficiency by implementing schedules and accounting for holiday periods when spaces may be vacant. They can alert users to issues that may affect the delivery of comfort.

Daikin’s range includes the iTouch Manager Centralised Controller, Individual control systems and BACNet / LonWorks Interface. Toshiba’s commercial controllers include; TCB-SC642TLE2, TCB-EXS21TLE, BMS-SM1280HTLE; BMS-SM1280ETLE, BMS-CT512IE; BMS-TP0641PWE, RBC-AX32U(w)-E, RBC-AX33CE and TCB-AX32E2.

Each brand offers models in a range of prices and complexity offering both comfort and energy saving features with a user friendly interface. Daikin’s range, which is diverse and intelligent was rated at 4.5 out of 5. Toshiba’s range also offers intelligent features and was rated at 3 out of 5.

Ceiling Cassette Systems

Toshiba offers a range of differing capacities from 2.5 kW for smaller shops or offices to 14.0 kW for medium-larger spaces. These units are built to be discrete and incorporates DC Twin Rotary compressors, making them highly efficient.

Under Ceiling Systems

Toshiba’s Under Ceiling System is ideally suited for light commercial use. They utilise an automatic swing mode to ensure airflow evenly reaches all areas of the space.

These units offer easy installation and are built from durable materials. Toshiba received a rating of 3 out of 5 for these versatile units.
