Error codes help you know when your air conditioning system needs to be repaired or isn’t working as it should. Each error code has a meaning to help you understand the problem and what needs to be done to fix it.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries units present an indication of self-diagnosis so when the air conditioner stops abnormally; the cause is indicated with lamps.
Three minutes after an abnormal stop, you can use the remote controller to start the appliance. The error indication should disappear and the appliance will commence operation, unless a more complex issue requires technical expertise.
Reseting your system will delete your air conditioner’s on board memory. We recommend trying this step before spending money on a service call.
Separate your air conditioning system from its power supply. Unplug it from a power point, turn off the isolator next to the outdoor unit or shut down your house’s power from the electrical board. Then leave it for 15 to 30 minutes.
Have a technician look into the issue. This will make sure you don’t accidentally cause further damage to your air conditioning system.
RUN lamp: Light up

Content of failure: Error of communication between indoor and outdoor units: Main cause: Connection wire break, poor contacting, defective indoor and outdoor circuit boards, defective power supply.
Indication (flash, light up) conditions: Indoor circuit board ←→outdoor circuit board: signal over 10 sec. (with power), even over 1 min. and 50 sec. (operating), no signal (compressor stops)
RUN lamp: Flash 1 time
TIMER lamp: Light up
Content of failure: Error of indoor heat exchanger sensor
Main cause: Wire break of indoor heat exchanger sensor, poor plug contacting
Indication (flash, light up) conditions: The operation stops and the wire break of the heat exchanger sensor is detected (wire break is determined when it is detected within 15 sec. at a temperature of below-20°C) (No indication during operation).
RUN lamp: Flash 2 times
TIMER lamp: Light up
Content of failure: Room temperature sensor error
Main cause: Room temperature sensor wire break, poor joint contacting
Indication (flash, light up) conditions: The operation stops and the wire break of the heat exchanger sensor is detected (wire break is determined when it is detected within 15 sec. at a temperature of below-20°C) (No indication during operation)
RUN lamp: Flash 5 times
TIMER lamp: Light up
Content of failure: Voltage error
Main cause: Voltage is abnormal.
Indication (flash, light up) conditions: N/A
RUN lamp: Flash 6 times
TIMER lamp: Light up
Content of failure: Indoor fan motor error
Main cause: Defective fan motor, poor plug contacting, defective indoor circuit board.
Indication (flash, light up) conditions: When the air conditioner is operating and the indoor fan motor is ON, the rotational frequency of the indoor fan motor is 300 rpm for over 30sec. (The air conditioner stops.)
RUN lamp: Light up
TIMER lamp: Flash 3 times
Content of failure: Over current (safe current)
Main cause: Operating with overload, over current
Indication (flash, light up) conditions: N/A
RUN lamp: Light up
TIMER lamp: Flash 4 times
Content of failure: Power transistor failure
Main cause: Failure of power transistor
Indication (flash, light up) conditions: N/A
RUN lamp: Light up
TIMER lamp: Flash 5 times
Content of failure: Compressor over heat
Main cause: Insufficient refrigerant Defective vent-pipe sensor Disconnecting valve closed
Indication (flash, light up) conditions: When the value of vent-pipe sensor exceeds the setting (The air conditioner stops.)
RUN lamp: Continuous flashing
TIMER lamp: Flash 2 times
Content of failure: Outdoor heat exchanger liquid pipe sensor error
Main cause: Wire break of outdoor heat exchanger liquid pipe sensor Poor joint connection
Indication (flash, light up) conditions: The operation stops and the wire break of the outdoor heat exchanger sensor is detected (wire break is determined when it is detected within 15 sec. at a temperature of below-50°C) (No indication during operation)
RUN lamp: Continuous flashing
TIMER lamp: Flash 1 time
Content of failure: Outdoor air temperature sensor error
Main cause: Wire break of external temperature sensor, poor joint contacting
Indication (flash, light up) conditions: The operation stops and the wire break of the outdoor heat exchanger sensor is detected (wire break is determined when it is detected within 15 sec. at a temperature of below-40°C) (No indication during operation)
RUN lamp: Continuous flashing
TIMER lamp: Flash 4 times
Content of failure: Vent-pipe sensor error
Main cause: Wire break of vent-pipe sensor, poor joint contacting
Indication (flash, light up) conditions: After the rotational frequency of over 0 rps of outdoor unit lasts for 9 minutes; the temperature measured by the vent-pipe sensor of compressor is <7゜C for more than 15 sec. (The air conditioner stops.)
RUN lamp: Light up
TIMER lamp: Flash 1 time
Content of failure: Power cut
Main cause: Lock of compressor, output missing phase of compressor, short circuit of wiring of compressor, Defective outdoor circuit board, Defective EEV, Disconnecting valve closed
Indication (flash, light up) conditions: When the compressor is started and the output current of the inverter (current of compressor motor) exceeds the setting (The air conditioner stops.)
RUN lamp: Light up
TIMER lamp: Flash 2 times
Content of failure: Outdoor unit error
Main cause: Damage of mains transformer, wiring break of compressor, wire break of vent-pipe sensor, poor joint contacting, disconnecting valve closed, insufficient refrigerant, defective EEV
Indication (flash, light up) conditions: The outdoor unit stops due to abnormal cause or the input current is lower than the setting for 3 min.
(The air conditioner stops.)
RUN lamp: Flash 2 times
TIMER lamp: Flash 2 times
Content of failure: Rotor lock
Main cause: Defective compressor, output missing phase of compressor, wiring break of compressor, defective circuit board of outdoor unit
The position of magnetic pole of the compressor motor can’t be correctly detected when the compressor is started.
(The air conditioner stops.)
Note: (1) This can’t be started with the remote controller 3 minutes after abnormal stop. The abnormal stop disappears when the power of the air conditioner is switched off.
