Our review team undertook a direct comparison between Optima, our top-rated air conditioning installation company, against Coldflow, our second rated Melbourne company. Both these companies performed strongly across a range of factors, including price, and customer service. In particular, our review team was impressed with Optima’s outstanding response times to requests for a quote, as well their willingness to take on complex installations. Coldflow is a very experienced company, which has financing options, availability on weekends and are willing to consider deals and price matching in certain circumstances. Overall, our review team rated Optima 4.5 stars out of 5, with Coldflow rating 4 stars.
Both Coldflow and Optima performed strongly from a pricing perspective, however these two companies have different fee models. Optima have very strong pricing, offered from the very first quote. However, they are less flexible when it comes to offering discounts, deals, promotions or even financing. The entire amount of the price needs to be paid on completion of the installation.
On the other hand, Coldflow’s price effectiveness is not as good overall as Optima, however Coldflow is open to certain discounts and deals which under the right circumstances can help customers get great value. For example, unlike Optima, Coldflow does volume discounts if you install multiple units. Coldflow can also help you access deals and promotions of the manufacturers, which fluctuate over the course of the year. In addition, Colfflow is willing to price match if they are installing the same unit in the same way, whereas Optima doesn’t have a policy of price matching. Finally, it is worth noting that Coldflow has financing options through their financing partner Once Finance. Optima requires the whole payment upfront.
Both Optima and Coldflow perform really strongly from a customer service perspective. Overall, our review team rated Optima 4.3 out of 5, with a customer service rating by phone of 8 out of 10, slightly ahead of Coldflow’s customer service rating by phone of 7.5 out of 10. Both companies received a rating of 9 out of 10 for customer service by email.
In terms of response times, being the time taken by the sales team to acknowledge receipt of a request for a quote, and then the time taken to provide a quote, Optima excelled in this regard, by generally responding within 6 hours. This is a point of difference for the Optima team. It is worth noting that Coldflow has weekend availability, while Optima does not. Optima has slightly better online ratings and reviews than Coldflow, although both companies generally leave customers feeling satisfied.
Optima and Coldflow are being very old and experienced companies. Coldflow in particular is very experienced, the company having incorporated in 1966.
One key point of difference between these two companies is that Coldflow has a policy of not installing air conditioning units in apartment buildings. If you are looking to install an air con in an apartment, Optima should be your preferred company.
